Week 3: Thing 7

I feel like I'm learning about so much new technology at once that I hope I can remember it all. Flickr is amazing but a little overwhelming for me. It seems that it takes a LOT of time to find a photo I want to use, and then I have to make sure I don't hyperlink off on a random sidetrip once I've found one. I'd like to know how people are using Flickr, what tricks make it easier to use. Color Pickr was very cool to learn about. I had trouble navigating through mappr and got a little frustrated there. My husband showed me how to search Flickr by location, which maybe is what mappr does? Not sure. At any rate, I appreciate taking this class and being exposed to all of this.

Week 3: Thing 6

Played with Flickr mashup Color Pickr and made this trading card. I've got to come back to this and be a little more creative next time. I can see the educational possibilities of creating trading cards....this could be fun, although with young children it could be a little labor intensive. They could create planet trading cards, Pilgrim trading cards, continent trading cards and much more.

Week 3: Thing 5

I've loaded my first photo onto Flickr - a photo I'd taken of our library, unfortunately with no one in it. The space always looks so much more cheerful with students in it!

Week 2: Thing 4

My blog has been posted and I'm on my way to the next adventure - Flickr. I'm liking where I'm going!

Thing 2: 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners

Easiest Piece of Advice to Follow
Play! I do like to try and experiment to see what’s out there and what others are doing. I also like to think about ways new things can be incorporated into our learning environment.

Hardest Piece of Advice to Follow
Regarding the Habits of Life-long learners, I think the hardest one for me to incorporate is to view problems as challenges. Mostly I tend to view problems as well, problems, which I understand is not the most effective way to overcome them. This outlook leads one to focus on the negative and will not necessarily lead to constructive & productive work. The funny thing about hearing this advice is that I have heard myself give this same advice to my children as I enthusiastically try to get them to move on and put their latest setback behind them. So maybe as a result of this assignment I’ll also try to pay more attention to what the experts ( & even myself) are saying and put those words into practice.

Week 2 Thing 3

So far this is pretty painless and kind of fun. It does make you think about quickly cyberjunk can get created. I, who can barely handle just the Globe & the Times (weekends only), am already starting to get drowsy thinking about the infinite number of blogs out there waiting to be read. I can see myself wasting innumerable hours hyperlinking to an endless number of enticing locations. Okay, enough for now, on to the creation of my personal avatar.

Who knew?
